Announcing: "On This Rock," a biblical theology community

Announcing:

Biblical Theology. Real Community. No Noise.

The Community You’ve Been Looking For, Built Around the Bible and the People You Love

If you’ve landed here, you might already feel it—that quiet frustration, that sense that the Church is missing something.  Or at least that we could be doing something different, more, better... well, something.

Honestly, we're not looking to place “blame” or criticism...but as disciples of Jesus—followers of the perfect God and perfect Man—shouldn’t we be striving to always improve, always grow?

You love Scripture.
You want to grow.
And you’ve got big questions.

That’s a really good place to be, actually.
It’s a place where you’re ready to step forward and do more.

It might feel frustrating to be there, but really it’s fantastic—because you know there’s a path to follow.

So What’s the Problem?

Of course, there’s plenty of things “out there” to try.  New Bible studies.  New methods.  New things to sign up for.

Yeah, I admit: this is kinda like that... but bear with me, okay?

Because while methods and groups really are important, I’m not looking for a cookie-cutter answer to this. I want genuine community—which to me means organic growth and development where you are able and encouraged not just to apply a particular method, but to find the ways of application that work in your particular situation.

Which is honestly a hard thing to do!

Where Churches Sometimes Fall Short

We know that many churches don’t leave room for wrestling deeply with the text or asking questions like:

“What did the biblical authors really mean?”

That means your church may not be the optimal place to find the most creative solutions to your approach.

There’s no need to be overly critical about that—it just is what it is.

But it does mean there's a gap.
Actually, there's several:

  • A gap between our individual learning and what we can expect from our local congregation

  • A gap between systematic theology (organized philosophically) and biblical theology (approaching Scripture on its own terms)

  • A gap between the academy and the church

You know what's great, though?

Those gaps are lessening—actively.  Right now.  You may have already seen that.  Maybe you've even been a part of it.

These movements can’t happen in only one place, so what I’m building isn’t “the only place” for this, but I hope it’s a helpful place—one that works to bridge all of those gaps.

And maybe you see other gaps.  Come tell us about them.  Let’s talk together and find ways to move forward.

And just to be clear—it’s not even about “broken” vs. “functional.”

It’s about maturing in discipleship.
It’s just what we’re meant to do.

Why Community Matters

Good thinking doesn’t just happen when you’re cooped up in a stuffy study with shelves of books.  (Though hey—I’m not knocking that!  But please... get me some air conditioning.)

Good thinking happens in conversation, where we are able to get new ideas that aren’t our own and when we collaborate.

Call it a hive mind, brainstorming, masterminding...  The truth is, tackling hard problems is simply better with more people.

That’s why On This Rock exists.

So What Is “On This Rock”?

On This Rock is an online community built around one simple but powerful idea:

What if we could recover the depth of biblical theology—and learn together how to apply it in a complex modern world?

We’re not here to push a brand, a denomination, or a new trend.
We’re here to go back to the source—to study Scripture the way its authors intended:

  • in context

  • with depth

  • and in community

What You’ll Find in the Community

The community includes:

  • Free-to-join spaces for group discussion, chat, and prayer

  • DM chat for private, one-on-one conversations

  • Christian content creators sharing free resources to help you learn the Bible in its original context

  • Weekly and monthly themes designed around our goals of learning, equipping, and teaching

  • A reasonably priced paid tier to support development and give you access to focused, goal-driven materials

  • Courses designed to be taken in cohorts, so you’re not left learning alone

  • Web and mobile app access, so it fits your life

  • And best of all—no shiny distractions like you get with typical social media

Much of this is still in development—but development moves faster as more people join in.  That’s just another strength of a community model like this.  You help shape what we build.

All you need to do is go to On This Rock, sign up with your name and email address, and you’re in.

Who It’s For

  • Curious Christians who feel like “church as usual” isn’t cutting it

  • Bible nerds who love exploring Scripture’s big story

  • Pastors, small group leaders, and content creators who want better tools to disciple others

  • People who want to connect with others asking the same deep questions

  • Anyone ready to move beyond spiritual milk and start chewing on solid food

If that’s you, then come join us.
It’s free.  It’s easy.  Come check it out.

What Happens Inside the Community?

On This Rock is a platform that’s structured, distraction-free, and surprisingly easy to use.

Here’s a sneak peak of how it works inside the community:

Collections

Think of these like categories or themes.  Each collection contains Spaces related to a topic or purpose—kind of like a shelf in a library.

Spaces

Spaces are where the action happens:

  • Living Stones – A discussion group with chat functionality

  • Prayer Corner – A space to support one another through prayer and life updates

  • Memetic Warfare – A place for memes

  • Bible Project Discussion – A place to talk about out favorite or least favorite things about the Bible Project’s work, including ideas of how to integrate their materials with your own teaching or learning

  • Individual Creator’s Spaces – Like Genesis Marks the Spot or the Storeroom of Scripture

  • Small Group Discussion Spaces – Set up specifically for, well, small group discussion

You can:

  • Comment

  • Ask questions

  • Join chats

  • RSVP to events

  • And engage at your own pace

If you join a paid tier, you’ll unlock even more content and specialized spaces—each designed to help with your personal or ministry goals.

Got ideas? Let me know what you'd like to see, and we’ll build it together.

What Makes This Different?

There are thousands of Bible study programs out there—and many of them are genuinely helpful.

But if you're like most of us, you've probably found yourself asking:

"I’ve learned a lot… but how do I actually use it?"

This isn’t just another study method or content hub.  We’re a learning community.

In community, new ideas emerge.
Assumptions get challenged.
Flexibility becomes natural when you can bounce ideas around in a safe, curious space.

My goal is to create a place where:

  • Scripture is central

  • Context matters

  • Hard questions are welcome

  • Discipleship means equipping others—not just consuming content

This isn’t just about mastering information—that’s almost the easy part.  It’s time to figure out how to use what we’ve learned.

And honestly, we’re all in different positions, doing different kinds of ministry.  That means the same methods won’t work everywhere.

When we draw from a hive mind, we can find our way through the complexity.

You're Invited

This isn’t just another program.  It’s a movement that is already happening in many places, I'm just asking you to join us so we're stronger together.

If you’re tired of trying to grow alone (or you already know the power of group learning and would like more), if you’re tired of shallow answers or tired of wondering if anyone else out there cares about theology like you do—come on in.

Introduce yourself.  Explore a few spaces.  Let’s learn and develop together.
